About Us

The Kendall Amateur Radio Society (KARS) was formed in October 1980 and has a current membership of about 70. Our club offers ham radio activities and fellowship to amateur radio operators in Boerne, Texas, the surrounding Hill Country (Kendall County, Bergheim, Sisterdale, Junction, Center Point, Comfort, Fair Oaks Ranch, Scenic Oaks, Kendalia, Bulverde, Pipe Creek, Spring Branch, Cross Mountain,  Grey Forrest, Helotes) and north west San Antonio.

A major project for our club is the ARRL Field Day exercise which takes place on the last full weekend in June each year.

ARRL Field Day is our biggest undertaking but we do participate in other radio events such as DX contests.

We have also participated in several Kendall County activities each year. Each Labor Day, we have traded our work in the beverage booth at the fairgrounds for the use of the fairgrounds for Field Day. And, we have also 'radio managed' the Labor Day parade with ham radio communications to get it under way and keep it flowing.

We are always ready to assist the local government if emergency conditions such as flooding or storm damage require radio communications and backup.

We support two active VHF repeaters at 146.640- ( pl tone 88.5) and 145.190- (pl tone 88.5).  The .64 machine is located five miles north of Boerne.  The .19 machine is located adjacent to the Kendall County Sherrif's Office.
